Boot Camp

I'm in week two of bootcamp now and it's kicking my butt...and my quads, and my hamstrings, and anything else muscular in my body. Well ok my butt really isn't! Just to reiterate...I am NOT a morning person. I like to sleep. I like to drink coffee when I wake up and slowly get ready for the day. I don't like to run. I don't like to start the day running at 5:30am. I don't like feeling sweaty at 5:30am. But I've gotten up each time so far and I've made it through each workout. The great thing about them is that you don't know what exercise you're going to do. One day we used medicine balls. Another day we used hand weights. Wednesday we used kettleballs which I had never seen or heard of. I thought running was hard but try running with an 8 or 10lb weight in your hands. But we don't just run. We have to do pushups sometimes, too. I hate pushups! I have no upper body strength. I have to cheat sometimes during the exercises...ssshhh don't tell...because my body is saying "Are you crazy!?" But the amazing thing is that everyone in the class is there to cheer you on, they're suffering just like you, and I always have a great attitude the rest of the day despite all the sweating and huffing and puffing I've done. Go figure. Can't wait to see what results I may see when I'm done!

Special Things

Attention Ladies!! I went to Petals and Vine in downtown McKinney on Saturday since they were having a sale. After I left I went around the corner to a store on the corner called Special Things. As soon as I opened the door I almost walked out because it looked mostly like antiques. But lo and behold there was jewelry! Lots and lots of cute jewelry. Look at what I bought!

I decided to go big and bold with this one.
I love the colors in this one!

Almost every piece was sold as a set so this was definitely a bargaining point for me. Be sure to look all over the store because it's in 3 different areas!

Changes

I made two significant changes to my life over the weekend. Not super significant in some people's terms but significant to me.

1. I signed up for Boot Camp which meets 3 times a week at 5:30am at the church. The first class was this morning. I started getting nauseous with 20 minutes left but I made it. Next time I'll eat breakfast! I signed up because I've been getting bored at the gym and it's so easy not to push yourself but just to do a mediocre workout. Let me just say that the ladies in the class at BC look awesome! The instructor is great. Even though he is an ex-Marine he is very encouraging and doesn't call you out if you're cheating. That's just their motto. Check out their website at TexasBootCampLLC.com.

2. I now have a new part-time job or whatever hours I want to work. I am officially a Mary Kay consultant. I did this for two reasons: I love makeup and my day job has been very unstable for a long time. So much so that everyone's position at my office is up in the air. This is due to the fact that the business has been struggling for awhile and the effects are getting rougher. Korey supports me in this new endeavor so that's been great. For all two of you (haha) that read this blog, know that I'd love to pamper you with no obligations attached! Please let me know if you'd be interesting in letting me introduce Mary Kay to you. I have found so far that everything is high quality and very reasonably priced. Now ladies, who can resist some pampering time?! You can visit my website at http://www.marykay.com/kelly.scott.

Tuesday Night Lights

On Tuesday of this week we ventured off to The Shops at Legacy for a girlfriend's bday. We ate at Fireside Pies and then stopped by at Pacuigo and then sat around this fountain while the bday girl opened her gifts. Here's Korey...probably contemplating how awesome I am!

I took this one without the flash.
Me and my friend Janai (not the bday girl)

I've never been to Vegas but a friend said the fountain reminded them of the Belaggio's. As the fountain shot up water, the colors would change. We ran into some friends who live over there and their 1 yr old LOVED this fountain. FYI if you need a source of entertainment for your little ones.

In other news we have recently taught our dogs NOT to jump on the couch...and hang out there...and sleep there...and declare that the spot they are in is THEIR spot. I armed myself with treats one afternoon and 24 hours later Korey and I were amazed that they picked up on it so fast after we had let them get away with it for over a year. Of course, we still have random incidences where they think they just have to jump on the couch or they look at you with a puppy dog face and one paw on the couch, sweetly trying to convince you that they belong there. But overall, so far so good. I told my mom and she wanted to know if I could teach them not to lick her feet when she came over.

5 Ingredient Dinner

We had this for dinner but it would also make a great lunch. I would like to thank Paula Deen for her contribution to cooking because she created this simple recipe. Let's just pause for a moment before we dig in...

Here are the ingredients. Only 5!! We have tortillas (I chose wheat because I try to sneak in healthy stuff when I can), shredded parmesan cheese, caeasr dressing (again the healthy version), lettuce, and rotisserie chicken. What you can't see is that the chicken has already been nibbled on because I have a meat-loving husband. See previous day's post for proof.

Here is the recipe in Paula's recent magazine for those of you who want to see it.
Here's a better pic of the end result...chicken casear salad wraps.

Have your meat-loving husband tear the chicken into pieces while you mix together lettuce, dressing, and the cheese. There are measurements in her recipe but you can do it to taste. You could also add in extras like croutons or substitue Ranch dressing for the caesar.
Here's the mixing stage of all the ingredients minus the tortillas.
Fold it into the tortillas, slice in half, and voila you're done! Easy and fast!

Choo Shoe

In honor of Korey's help in getting ready for my sister's lingerie shower, I took him out for a date night. He paid of course!!

We headed to Dallas where I took him to Who's Who Burgers in Highland Park Village. I'd been there before since I used to live in Dallas so I figured he would like it since hamburgers have become his recent favorite food.

Here he is eating the 1/2 pound Kobe beef burger.

This burger is HUGE!! And there wasn't a bite left over afterwards.

After we ate we walked over to the movie theater to see The Proposal. And then we passed these on the way. HP Village has many higher end stores and these caught my eye as we walked by so I made him stop so I could take a picture. Aren't these absolutely gorgeous?! I looked them up online later and they are only a mere $1,295. I can't believe someone would put that much money on their feet! But hey they are adorable.

We ended the night at Starbucks for some coffee.

Thanks to my hubby for all of his hard work!

Hot Pink and Zebra Stripes Lingerie Shower

I've been crazy busy with my sister's upcoming wedding. I helped host a bridal shower in July and then this past weekend I hosted her lingerie shower. I found invitations online and then my hubby designed decorations for me. It all began when I said I needed to include a card with her sizes on it with the invitation. I thought about making an underwear shape out of scrap paper and then I figured he could try to draw something on his computer. He got to work. Then he impressed me so much with his skillz that I told him other things that I wanted and he impressed me even more. He has mad skillz!!!

For all of you BFG readers, I've noticed that there is always a name sign at the baby showers hanging up over the mantle. Since I don't have access to a cricut machine I took this idea and had him make it based upon the underwear shape he originally drew. I told him I wanted each underwear shape to have one letter of her name on it then he added the zebra stripes in the background. I hole-punched each card and strung ribbon through it to hang it up. I thought it was fabulous!!

Here is a closeup of one of the letters.

I love the detail!
Here is the full sign hung over the mantle.

I had found hot pink martini glasses so I decided to make my own "wine charms." Except we didn't drink wine out of these! I had him make a small version of the zebra underwear and we typed each girl's name on it and then I hole-punched it and tied ribbon through it to attach it to the glass. Then each girl knew which glass was hers and they had a personalized label.
Here's a closeup of the glass with the label attached.

I'm so proud of my hubby and his fabulous skillz. I'm thinking we should market his lingerie shower designs!!
